Overcrowding is a real challenge in many remote communities, and we are no exception. When too many people share small spaces, it increases the risk of communicable diseases spreading, from colds and flu to more serious illnesses. That’s why it’s crucial to build more homes, giving our mob the space they need. By addressing overcrowding, we can improve overall health outcomes, reduce the spread of illness, and give our people a better quality of life.
We are prioritising the wellbeing of our communities by tackling overcrowding and creating more comfortable, safe housing. Some of our older homes have outlived their purpose, and they’re no longer meeting the needs of today’s families. We’re replacing these homes with new, modern spaces that support a better quality of life. By doing so, we’re not just offering a place to live – we’re improving health, reducing the spread of illness, and creating an environment where everyone can thrive.
Remote living means access to services can be a challenge, but having comfortable, modern homes for professionals – like teachers and nurses – is a game-changer. By offering quality housing, we can attract the skilled people we need and increase retention rates, ensuring we have access to the services that make life better for all of us.
The benefits of our housing initiatives go beyond just providing homes. By leasing accommodations to service providers, we generate income that stays within the community. This income goes directly back into improving our community, creating more opportunities for everyone who calls Bagala home.
“We want to create a future for our people that is strong and full of opportunities. These new homes give our children and grandchildren a solid foundation to build their lives upon,” says Esther Bulumbarra, Board Member at BAC.
By prioritising housing, we’re investing in the health and future of our community. Safe, comfortable homes mean healthier families, reduced health risks, and the opportunity for everyone to thrive. Our housing initiatives reflect our commitment to making Bagala a better place to live, work, and grow.
