The Men’s Wellness Workshop is a new initiative for our mob in Barunga and Wugularr (Beswick) and was created to support men’s social, emotional, and cultural well-being. By combining cultural healing with health programs and leadership opportunities, this project is about building up our men and strengthening the ties that keep our communities strong.
Our men often face unique challenges that affect their health, family relationships, and connection to culture. The Men’s Wellness Workshop addresses these challenges with a holistic approach, combining modern health practices with traditional cultural knowledge to promote healing and resilience.
One of the most powerful parts of this workshop is on-country healing. When we gather on our land, surrounded by the stories of our ancestors, we reconnect not only with our culture but with each other. These gatherings are about more than healing—they’re about building stronger connections across our mob and beyond.
Workshops and programs will also help men develop life skills, strengthen families, and build healthier habits. This is for us, by us, ensuring that it reflects what our communities truly need.
This project has been given a $4.4 million grant to help make it happen. The funding will go toward staff, cultural events, transport, and everything else we need to make the workshops successful.
We’ve already come a long way in the planning, and we’re working hard to finalise all the details. It won’t be long now until we can share dates and locations, so keep an eye out for more news soon!
