Barunga Festival

Barunga Fest: Where Culture, Connection, and Community Thrive

Every June, our small community of Barunga transforms into a vibrant hub of culture, art, and sport as we welcome thousands of visitors from across Australia and beyond to celebrate Indigenous heritage at the annual Barunga Festival.

Our population, usually just over 350, swells to more than 4,500 for three unforgettable days. Barunga Fest is an annual celebration of community pride, resilience, and connection.

Authenticity at Its Heart

Festivals across Australia may come and go, but Barunga Fest continues to thrive. Why? Because of its authenticity. This is no ordinary festival—it’s a deeply cultural experience shaped by our Traditional Owners and our Board at Bagala Aboriginal Corporation. From the start, every aspect of Barunga Fest is planned with cultural awareness, inclusion, and positivity at its core.

A Buzzing Community

While visitors explore workshops, enjoy performances, and soak up the vibrant atmosphere, our community worked tirelessly behind the scenes. For us, the festival is about more than showcasing culture. It’s about creating opportunities for our people, strengthening ties with neighbors and visitors, and reminding the world what makes Barunga special.

Recognised on a Global Stage

Barunga Fest is no longer just a beloved local tradition—it’s gaining international acclaim. Currently ranked among the Top 10 Cultural Festivals in the World, it’s clear that our hard work, dedication, and spirit are being recognised far beyond our community borders.

We can’t wait to do it all again this year. Come join us—you’ll leave with a piece of Barunga in your heart.
